Stages’ Performance and Acting Workshop Wows O.L.P.H.

Students at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School received a real treat when Stages on the Sound came to teach about Shakespeare and even act out a few scenes from some of his works. The program was an enjoyable experience that taught fourth through eighth grades all about some of Shakespeare’s most famous works. The actors made the experience come alive and presented it in a way that was easy to understand. The plays that were acted out included Hamlet, Julius Caesar, Romeo and Juliet, and Antony and Cleopatra.

After the presentation, eighth- graders took part in a workshop in which they learned various acting techniques. They formed groups and performed different parts from one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, Romeo and Juliet.

This experience was truly wonderful and taught the students a lot about acting. They were able to choose the setting in which they acted out their assigned scenes. Some locations included McDonald’s, a meadow, and even the moon. The performance was very engaging for both the actors and the students.

Emily Singh, an eighth-grader, said, “The play gave us an idea of how actors portray their roles with emotion.”

Eighth-graders thought the play was very educational. “I thought it was extremely appealing, and it was an outstanding play,” said Cynthia Singh. “It was inspiring and the actors were very skilled.”

Michelle Appiah, also an eighth-grader, said, “My favorite part of the play was when they acted out the first scene from Romeo and Juliet. It was explained to us in a way that was both captivating and funny at the same time. It helped me get a better understanding of Romeo and Juliet.”

The skilled actors kept the attention of the audience at every moment. It was an ingenious interpretation of Shakespeare’s actual work that was perfect for our generation. Overall, the students were pleasantly surprised by this wonderfully skilled performance. This was a remarkable laugh-out-loud experience that was great for the whole audience and the actors, too. This performance will surely be one of our most memorable moments here at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School.
